As you may know by now, one month after the EES Panel gave it’s “findings” to the Vic Planning Misister (J.Madden) we hear from Madden that there is no reason to not allow the project to go ahead (though he admitted there would be harm done)

On TV our representative Chris Heislers explained that the result was predictable given that the narrowness of the scope of the EES Inquiry (and indeed the EES itself) .

Watershed was warned in September of 2008 by legal counsel and others with experience in Panel Hearings that the Wonthaggi Desal EES was set up to get the result the government wanted.

Cartoonist Colin Suggett saw this clearly way back in mid 2008 - and summed up the situation perfectly . . . .

The big Jan 3rd 2009 event on the Bass Coast was finally staged at Cape Patterson near the proposed site of the “crazy” desalination factory.

The big collaboration of organisations ensured that the Australian media and the the Southern Australian public know that the Victorian surfing community with big name identities, stand united in protecting Victoria’s coastal heritage from “crazy” projects like the proposal for a desalination mega-factory on the East side of Wonthaggi.

Print & TV media were awash with stories and comments from a who’s who of champions of sport and music .

Sports people showed they can be very articulate and take the environmental protection message to the wider public, and get the first ‘worry sweat’ of 2009 out of the foreheads of all State politicians, leaving no doubt that 2009 will see power hungry, chemical discharging desal factories and other PPP projects under heavy fire from all angles.

How they will professional politicians keep their seats in the next State election if they stay silent on such outragous PPP projects ??

One of the great outcomes of the Jan 3rd event was the human sign spelling the surf lovers message that the Eastern Wonthaggi desal proposal will be a wipeout for Victoria.

Governments and corporations do crazy things that make people cry & die, but here at the happy, happy house of Watershed Vic online - we want you to smile smugly just before you get slugged paying for a desalination mega-factory you never asked for, or need …

The Victorian & Federal Governments have great trouble telling the truth about the real environmental, social and economic “effects” of chemical and coal dependent desalination factories, so when the EES Panel & the office of Dim Holding kept releasing the predictable rubber stamping of the Wonthaggi Desalination “Reference Project” (not even a real design!) , it was time to give Dim’s Ministry a more truthful name.

I wonder if The Chaser could deliver the new letterhead stationery to Dim ??
